This is me, Peter Olewnik, I have been openly gay since my freshman year of high school and I was nominated for prom queen at my high school for my senior prom. I had many people bully me about it, kids told me that it wasn’t okay for me to be queen and that it was wrong, I had some kids even say they were going to do everything in their power to make sure that I didn’t win. Prom night came around and when it was time to announce the winner of prom queen, the whole crowd started chanting my name, and after waiting a month to find out, it was my name that was called! I was given a tiara and pink roses and even shared a dance with the prom king. Winning for me wasn’t about being the most popular kid or being the most attractive person, but it was showing all those kids who ever doubted me that I could be the queen and no matter how much you get put down for being who you are, you can always come out on top.

My mom hired a transgender girl this week...
- Co-worker: Did you know she's really a guy?
- Mom: Not when I hired her but yes, I am aware now.
- Co-worker: How could you hire someone like that?
- Mom: Easy, she's adorable and more than capable of doing the job.
- Co-worker: Well as a mother, I am appalled that he's allowed to work somewhere with people's children.
- My mom: Listen here lady, that IS someone's child you're talking about. You are an adult. Stop acting like a child. SHE is a wonderful GIRL.
- Co-Worker: Well I just don't feel safe sharing a bathroom with her.
- Mom: Okay, she's transgender, not some kind of sexual predator. She's not going to attack you in the bathroom. She's obviously a better person than you. You know what? Why don't you go complain to management about it because your ignorance and hate is really pissing me off.
